Lower cost recommendation for this carpet - PU 8mm underlay

Will feel fine underfoot, particularly with Startwist's two ply pile.

This underlay can be used in bedrooms instead of 9mm underlay if extra savings need to be made.

The main point about underlay

Underlays main job is to reduce wear on the carpets surface pile, and secondly to give a more sumptuous feel when you tread or sit on the floor. It will give some limited noise insulation, but don't depend on underlay alone to significantly reduce noise in the rooms below.

PU foam may not appear to be as thick or spongy as conventional rubber underlays, but this is not to be mistaken as making it inferior in anyway. As a carpet salesman, I have looked at many older carpets in the course of my job and found rubber underlay always leads to inferior wear.

Flattening is caused by the play between the feet and the subfloor (floorboards/concrete), PU foam imperceptibly reduces impact over time in comparison to rubber underlay. Remember rubber underlay feels spongy largely because of the ribbing and the air content in its manufacture - neither of any long term value in preserving your carpets.

We simply do not offer inferior underlay or even underlay that is practically "too good" and hence "too expensive". If you feel you would prefer a different type of underlay to those that we offer, you will find much available on the internet at greatly reduced prices to carpet fitting shops.
